View of Kilimanjaro‘s Kibo summit from Rongai Route.
Standing at Gilman’s Point with Johnny.
You can’t tell from the photo but I suffered quite a bit with the lack of O2 as the elevation increased. 5681 meters is 18,638 feet. There is a higher point on Kilimanjaro’s summit (19,343 ft) but this was the end of the trail for me. The vomiting was probably nature’s way of saying I should have spent an additional day acclimating before pushing for the top. Johnny didn’t seem to have nearly as much of a problem with the low O2 as I did.
The view from the top of Kilimanjaro. The highest peak in Africa.
